IDIOTS AT WORK…
I was signing the receipt for my credit card purchase when the clerk noticed that I had never signed my name on the back of the credit card. She informed me that she could not complete the transaction unless the card was signed. When I asked why, she explained that it was necessary to compare the signature on the credit card with the signature I just signed on the receipt. So I signed the credit card in front of her. She carefully compared that signature to the one I signed on the receipt. As luck would have it, they matched.
This happened to me exactly as stated!
Stereo it wouldnt surpise me if you had read it somewhere before…does that mean that it can’t actually happen in real life?

Welcome 2 Yahoo Answers ^-^
That sounds suspiciously like something I once read at.
EDIT: No, I’m not saying you’re lying, I’m just commenting. I added the word “suspiciously” because I like those rare occasions during which I can use it.
It happened to me one time too.
wow she wasn’t very bright lol
No doubt there are a lot of ignorant people who enjoy what little power they can get. I’ve never signed my credit/debit cards, I show them my ID and that’s it. My logic being: If it doesn’t have my signature they won’t be able to forge it, therefore the bank will not be able to pin the blame on me for unauthorized charges. This is a little riskier for debit cards, if they clean your account you don’t get a penny back.
I did the same thing with one of my credit cards. Only, the clerk turned around while I signed. It is really funny. Business is business.
I guess that’s no more stupid than the time the cashier insisted that the 90 some year old man bent over on a cane show his ID before he could buy a six pack of beer.
lol some people just want to make sure.
I went through something similar with my car registration. I got pulled over and asked for the license ins. info and registration. and I received a ticket for no registration. I knew I had it so I went to court to fight it and since I didn’t sign the back I was found guilty.
thats stupid. i never sign my credit card cause someone could steal it. ugh….such stupid pple get hired.
lol that is hilarious…what did she think you would change your handwritting… some ppl are just plain stupid
Welcome to Yahoo! Answers!! This happened to someone in front of me at wal-mart…..it was so idiotic…..the cashier turned around so the man could actually sign his credit card!! it was so stupid….i cant believe some people!! LOL!!
people can be taken foe guanteeded of!!! What a dum-dum
luck was on your side!
Funny…there’s more people like that then I care to admit.
An unrelated thing happened to me (although it did take place at the store): I was in the Speedy Express line at Wal-mart (I only had one item, a package of batteries). Three people ahead of me, an older woman was paying for her purchase with a check, which of course resulted in the clerk calling for a manager, etc.
The person immediately behind her then proceeded to ALSO pay with a check, wasting even more of my time. I was starting to get impatient, so I leaned toward the middle-aged woman directly in front of me, and I whispered “if one more person tries to pay with a check, I’ll eat their liver”.
The woman quickly riffled through her purse, and pulled out a handful of cash for me to see. Yes, I apologized and told her I was just kidding.
It’s not as stupid as it appears. 1) When you sign that card, you come under the jurisdiction of forgery laws (which are felonies). In my state (Virginia) forgery carries the same penalty as assault and battery. 2) In order to accept credit cards, the merchant must enter an agreement with the credit card issuer (Visa, Mastercard, et al). Part of that agreement covers signatures. The merchant is REQUIRED to check the signature. If they accept a fraudulent signature, they are liable for the loss. If the signature matches the registered samples, the issuer is liable. That’s why the first step in processing a purchase dispute is requesting the merchant to provide a copy of the signed receipt so that a comparison can be performed.
I agree with ex-credis comments…some business will not take ur credit card unless signed…it is for ur protection that u sign it so the merchant have some thing to compare to..ull be surprise that there are a lot of stores still that does not check ids…a lot of places now has those signature pads to sign…those things does not work all that will…have u ever notice that when u sign it really don’t look like u signature?,..just for experiment try to scribble on it and see what happens…no matter what u put on them it will take it…my point is it’s best to sign ur card and put SEE ID right beside ur signature…just be grateful that she has ur best interest.. i get a little ticked-off when they don’t ask for id even though it’s written to see id…
