.. for a partially secured credit card, but the company sent me a fully secured credit card, and has told me to pay off the balance, though I did not consent to this card. The statute of limitations has expired, so there can be no legal action, but other companies have purchased the debt and are still seeking payment. I have disputed it on my credit report, do I have any other options to fix this problem?

I notice on a credit card I’ve had for many years that the account is now also showing up on my wife’s credit report. As far as I know she never signed anything but I did add her as an authorized user when I opened the account. I can’t see how she would be legally liable for any portion of the balance – is she? Is this some sort of scare tactic being imposed by the bank? I might add that this bank received billions of $$$ in TARP funds. I ask because I’ve been unemployed for months and cannot afford the scheduled payments.Thank you!

I have two credit cards, luckly only totalling about $1,500. Im a college student and used them for books. They are under collection and i still have the oppertunity to pay them off, which i am planning on doing anyway. BUT they are still going to be on my credit for the 7 years right? And If i pay them off, will it improve my credit rating atall, will they show up as paid off on my credit report? Or will paying them off do anything atall since they are so overdue.

I was one of those dumb 18 year olds who accepted every credit card offer that came in the mail. I have all paid off now accept one. It went to collections in 2002 and was recently sold to another collection agency. I understand that after 7 years your debt is sopposed to go off your credit report. Now that this debt was sold does the 7 years start over or will my 7 years be over next year?

I was contacted via phone this evening from a lawyer regarding a credit card debt that I believed to have been paid off by my ex husband, whom I divorced in 2000. The woman would give me NO details other than to say it was in my name and told me I had to contact the bank I had the credit card with for answers. I requested a copy of my credit report and sure enough it was there, the account was opened in 1998 and then it shows it being charged off in 2002 yet tonight was the first time anyone has ever contacted me about it. I honestly cannot remember if I signed the credit application or not; my ex opened alot of accounts without my knowledge and I was listed as an authorized user but according to the credit report this account was joint. I just want proof that I signed a credit application; do I have the right to request such proof? I told the woman that called that I am disputing this matter; she aruged that the account is in my name but I know it isn’t. What can I do?

I got two credit cards in college(1994-1998). I paid off one of them last year and I am still paying down the other one. Neither of these credit cards are showing on my credit report at all. Am I still responsible for paying on the one that still has a balance.

I know the difference between the two cards, but I want to know if there is a difference between the two on your credit report. For example, would it be more beneficial to have an unsecured card for your credit score? Or does it not make a difference which card you have?
