I may already be paying some fees to the credit card company or interest for which I am not really getting any tax break. So if the credit card gives me some rewards, or cash back…its just like they are giving me discount on money I am already paying them. It shouldn’t be thought of as extra income on which I need to pay state and federal taxes.

I seen an ad on tv for a free credit card application. When I got the application the card was attached.I read the form and seen a charge of $249.00 for the attached card. I called the card company and told them I tore the application up and didn’t wish to apply. They in turn put a bad mark on my credit history. Was I slammed by this credit card company? Can I sue them for this?

I’m 19; and have never had a credit card in my life. I need one for a few different reasons (plans that I have) in the near future.
What website, and what credit card company is the best (for interest rates) to apply?
Which one/kind would you recommend for a girl my age?
Any advice would be helpful.
Thanks!

I have been a customer of a credit card company for many years. I have had a clean record, so the company normally waived a rare late-fee if I ever accidentally delayed my monthly payment.
Last month I got hit by an over-limit penalty because I went a couple of dollars over the credit limit. I called the company and asked for a waiver. This time it was much much harder to get the fee waived — I had to almost cancel my credit card.
I am wondering why the difference between these two types of penalties?

We have paid our bill consistently on time. Due to a financial and medical hardship we want to offer to make a settlement to the credit card company and close two accounts. Will this settlement offer become negative on our credit reports since we have never missed a payment but just are seeking to close these accounts.
