Credit card application
I just applied for a 2nd credit card (a store credit card). On the website one of the requirements was that you were already approved for a major credit card.

The letter said rejected because:
-number of recent inquiries on credit bureau report
-excessive obligations in relation to credit limit
-limited credit experience

In Janurary I was approved for a student credit card(Visa through Bank of America). I’ve paid my bill in full each month, and my average use is $250/month of my credit limit, which is $700. So each month I have not even gotten close to my credit limit.

I just want to know what “excessive obligations in relation to credit limit” means. I understand the other reasons.

Thank you
ok, thank you everyone for all the side notes.

can someone please tell me what “excessive obligations in relation to credit limit” means

thanks

I am 17 years old. I earn an average of $400-$500/week in income, sometimes more. This is obviously way above-average pay for my age. I am a senior in high school, graduating in 3 months. I will then be able to work full-time and hopefully find a better job, making ~ $3,000-$4,000/month, before going to college either PT or FT next year.

Anyway, my parents have refused to co-sign a car loan for me. I am not really sure why, and it bugs me.

I already lied on a couple credit card applications and have two credit cards (a Visa and AMEX) in good standing.

My credit score is just above 700.

What are the potential consequences of, say, “mis-typing” the birth year on an online Capital One Auto Finance application for about $7,500?

If I pay my payments on-time and in whole every month, will they care/investigate the matter further?

Also, do they ALWAYS require proof of identification, i.e. driver’s license, when applying for a secured/car loan?

Thank you.
Thanks for the responses thus far.

I acknowledge the theoretical seriousness of this.

However, in PRACTICALITY, if I pay EACH and EVERY month on time and in whole, even exceeding the minimum installment amount for a given month, will I get in trouble?

NO defaulting, NO late notices, NO derogatory activity whatsoever.

I was approved for a $10,000 loan at 11.5% for a used person-to-person purcahse. While this isn’t the best rate, it isn’t unmanageable, either.

What if I paid even $700/month to get this thing paid off in 18 months?

Thanks again in advance and for the responses thus far.
Keep in mind this is for a person-to-person loan, NOT a dealer purchase. I wouldn’t dream of trying to buy a car at a dealer. Besides the obvious legal reasons, they are a complete rip-off.

I seen an ad on tv for a free credit card application. When I got the application the card was attached.I read the form and seen a charge of $249.00 for the attached card. I called the card company and told them I tore the application up and didn’t wish to apply. They in turn put a bad mark on my credit history. Was I slammed by this credit card company? Can I sue them for this?

I owe roughly $15,000 (between two cards). I was young and immature when it came to money and now I have to pay the price. I tried to get a new credit card to consolidate both balances but I was told in an application that my credit score was lowered by too many enquiries over a period of time (big bummer) so I can’t get a new card. I almost went with Capitol One, thats how desperate I was. But alas I’m still stuck with these two high interest cards. They’re college cards that I got when I was 18 (24 now). I tried to get the companies to lower the interest rate but they gave me a song and dance about the rates being on perma-set rate. So i need advice/help bad. :-(

I signed up for a credit card from Charles Schwab but got denied. I’m wondering if it’s because my credit line is too big in the other credit cards I have right now? I have two other cards, for a combined credit limit of around $8500. I’ve just graduated from college, but I always pay my bills in full. My credit score I believe is in the low 700’s.

is Charles Schwabs just being a biatch? cuz I thought everyone can sign up for a regular credit card without problems nowadays.

My monthly rent for the total place 4600. My share is 1533 (3 people) And technically the total rent is 8900 based on some rent control laws and thats what they report to the govt and they give us a “discounted rent” for 4600.
